Cellulite, My Arse!

Cellulite urgh, I speak from experience how miserable and self conscious this can make a person feel. I had it all over my thighs, butt, stomach & arms at one point. Here’s the main causes and how you can kick cellulites arse!!!

Number one on the list, quite frankly if you have an overburdened liver it wont be able to do its job of breaking down fats and keeping the blood clean. This means the toxins will circulate around our system or get lodged in certain areas, adding to those dimples. Due to the huge amount of chemicals and toxins we encounter day to day it is no wonder our liver is finding it hard keeping up. Your body is being bombarded with more toxins than it can cope with and eliminate every day. If you haven’t done a detox at some point in your life, your liver is most probably congested. The liver can also get overloaded with hormones, in particular oestrogen. Higher levels of this hormone have been linked to excess weight and cellulite.

Damaged Fats

You don’t need to be overweight to have cellulite, every cell in our body is made up of fats. Its the quality of the fats that make up your cells that is important. Our cell membranes need essential fatty acids (EFA’s) omega 3, 6 & 9. Essential means we need to obtain them through the diet. Most fats nowadays start off as these healthy EFA’s (usually omega 6 & 9) but go through processing, heating up or hydrogenation which changes their structure. This is extremely bad for the body, it literally cannot work the same with these damaged fats making up the cell membrane. Getting the damaged fats out of the system and upping the levels of good quality fats is whats needed, particularly the much lacking omega 3.

The Lymphatic system plays the role in carrying toxins to the blood to be eliminated by the liver but it also carries nutrients and white blood cells to where we need them. Lymph is the fluid that circulates the lymphatic system but unlike the circulatory system (blood) the lymphatic system does not have a pump (heart), therefore it needs to be helped along with movement in the body. Stagnation in this area will add to fluid retention, a major culprit in the big dimples.

Collagen is a protein found in connective tissue that supports and connects all internal organs. The under layer of our skin is 95% collagen, cellulite is basically caused by a breakdown in collagen fibres in the skin. This allows fatty tissue to push upwards through the gaps into the upper layer of skin (the epidermis). We need to stop the collagen breaking down and keep giving the body the ingredients to make new collagen (Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Iron, Manganese, Copper, Zinc, Amino acids, Silica) by eating a well balanced diet. Using firming cellulite creams will not work and can actually add to the break down in collagen with ingredients such as parabens & mineral oil. These and other chemicals in creams absorb through to our bloodstream and can mimic hormones, playing havoc with our endocrine system and congesting our liver.

Kicking Cellulites Arse!

Rebounding. The alternation between weightlessness and gravitational pull massages and stimulates the lymphatic drainage points, allowing better elimination and increased oxygen. It is extremely gentle on the joints and is excellent for circulation and metabolism, both needed for cellulite removal. Use just 15 minutes twice a day. Dynamic Yoga (Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow) Is cellulite busting! It is renowned for its mental, emotional and spiritual benefits, however it literally firms, tones and sculpts every muscle in the body! Working directly on improving the cardiovascular and blood circulatory systems by using synchronisation of deep forceful breaths with many forward bending, strength enhancing postures that aid digestion and toxin removal.  Weekly classes Click here One to Ones Click here

Herbal Tea & Water. Hydration is immensely important for the removal of toxins and keeping the skin healthy. Make sure you drink 2L filtered pure water a day. Nettle, Dandelion, Peppermint & Chamomile teas are good to include. Find one you like. For my nettle tonic recipe click here

Lifestyle & Eating Habits. Cutting out sugar and refined carbohydrates is key. For the low down on the effects of sugar Click here. Additionally by restoring any deficiencies and getting organs working optimally you will not only see huge improvements physically in the body but also in energy and mental emotional wellbeing. Dry Skin Brushing. This is a hugely effective way to stimulate the lymphatic system and remove the acidic top layer of the skin through exfoliation. On dry skin using one drop of a stimulating (pure) essential oil in the palm of your hand (Rosemary, Cypress, Lavender or Eucalyptus), brush over the hand with a natural bristle brush then with long sweeping strokes work from the feet, up the legs, front and back torso, up the arms and down the neck, chest and upper back (always towards the heart). Note: This technique should not be used if constipation is present. Click here for the appropriate brush

Cupping for celluliteCupping. Using this suction massage technique breaks up cellulite and supports lymphatic drainage. The cellulite is physically broken up, circulation is greatly increased, and the fat and toxins are delivered to lymph drainage areas to be escorted out of the body. The most important aspect of the cellulite treatment is that it relaxes the fibrous connective cords that actually are THE CAUSE of cellulite. You can buy you own cheap cupping sets and use them whilst in the shower or after with a massage oil.

Try not to obsess, self loathing is the absolute worst thing you can do for your body and mind. Love the skin you are in and most of all enjoy taking care of yourself using the above techniques and you will soon reap the rewards of more than just less dimples!
